Sara Crisp

Artist Sarah Crisp, a specialist in medieval-style paintings, was commissioned to paint five icons at St David's Catherdral.  These have been installed within the existing front and rear niches of the shrine. Made on lime wood panels using classic Byzantine styles and materials, they depict St David and other saints associated with the Cathedral.

Sara uses the traditional techniques of egg tempera and gold-leaf water gilding on gesso panels.  She finds the history and the symbolic meaning and purpose of icons a fascinating subject.
